Design studio, project space, bookshop, curatorial office, niche publishing house and pocket-scaled laboratory for urban aesthetics and collaborative thinking.
split/fountain (S/F), located in Auckland, New Zealand, merges at least 3 forms of production and dissemination –– art, design, and print –– through its operation as a design studio, project space, bookshop, curatorial office, niche publishing house and pocket-scaled laboratory for urban aesthetics and collaborative thinking. S/F works with artists as well as designers and architects and has its own publishing imprint, producing publications, newspapers and artists’ editions. With a special emphasis on printed matter, the S/F project aims to enable and promote critical speculation and knowledge production in the related fields of design, art, and architecture. It was founded in 2009.
Layla Tweedie-Cullen is director and co-founder of split/fountain. She studied graphic design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (Amsterdam) and Werplaats Typografie (Arnhem) in the Netherlands, and was a design fellow at the Walker Art Centre in Minneapolis USA.
