A project by Jack Hadley, 2013
Inspired by novelty printed satin boxer-shorts and Newmarket’s mid-range bridal boutiques, Jack Hadley set up studio at split/fountain for five weeks to work on an evening-wear collection, launched as a fashion show at the conclusion of his stay.
I went out to Otara and bought all this white polar fleece but now I’m like WTF, this isn’t glamorous, it looks like pyjamas, and not in a Karen Walker S/S’12 kinda way. This is totally like being on Project Runway.
It’s like the more shit it is as clothes, the better it is as art. The first dresses I made were from a $2 fruit printed table cloth and a tube of builder’s silicon. But it is hard to keep being shit. The clothes have started to look like clothes, which is totally obvious and boring. I sound like Picasso wanking on about trying to draw like a child again. – Jack Hadley
